What stick does Alex Pietrangelo use?
Pietrangelo, the 4th overall pick in 2008, is now a two-time Stanley Cup champion after he and the Vegas Golden Knights hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup this past June. The King City, Ontario native also has a World Junior Gold and an Olympic Gold medal in addition to his two Cups. Has "Petro" solidified his bid for a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame?
At 33 years of age, it wouldn't be unexpected for Pietrangelo to use an older model stick wrapped as a new model year after year, but Pietrangelo currently uses a Bauer AG5NT dressed as a Vapor Hyperlite. This isn't a total surprise, however, as many NHL stars switched to the AG5NT this past season as they couldn't pass up the opportunity to use Bauer's lightest stick ever produced. The former Blues' captain has also used the Bauer Vapor ADV, so he clearly has an affinity for some of the newest and lightest sticks on the market.
Pietrangelo uses a P92 curve (Blade 1) that's slightly customized in a few different areas of the blade. Firstly, when comparing his curve to a standard P92, you'll notice Pietrangelo doesn't have that patented dip at the top of the blade where it meets the hozzle, Pietrangelo's blade stays at an even height from toe to heel. Additionally, his curve features a small toe and a shallower pocket that begins at the heel of the blade. Standing at 6'3" and playing defense, it makes sense that Pietrangelo uses a stick as long as he does, measuring at 66".
