What stick does Joe Thornton use?
Thornton once dubbed his stick the 'ugliest stick in the league' and we can't really argue with that one.
He uses a Trigger 5 Pro with a custom heel curve. The blade itself is quite long and except for the slight wedge at the beginning, the curve is fairly straight. His sticks sit at a height of 60", but he adds an extension and spray paints the bottom for game-use.
Thornton (6th in NHL games played) came into the league the same year that Auston Matthews was born (1997). He has adapted his stick throughout the years as technology has changed but remnants of the old NHL still remain in the form of his heel curve, high flex and his use of an extension. He also was one of the last players to make the switch from the two-piece stick, ditching it after the 2016-17 season.
